I have a 1 year old silkie hen who just came in to lay about a month ago she was laying pretty average for a silkie and then one day she laid a shell-less egg after that she has not layed another egg. She did go broody after that so I was wondering if that could be the cause for her break in laying. It does bother me that she's not laying because I have alot of other layers that lay good, I was just curious about it.

Hens do not lay eggs while they are broody.
After the hen quits being broody, it will take several weeks before she starts laying eggs again.

OK thanks she has been broody for about 3 weeks, she lays in the nest box even when there is no eggs because I always take the eggs away. I just don't have any more room for more chickens right now or else I would let her hatch some eggs

Yes, some broody hens do keep sitting, even with no eggs.

She should eventually quit being broody, but you can "break" her broodiness if you want her to stop sooner.

@aart has a nice spiel about breaking broodiness:
My experience goes about like this: After her setting for 3 days and nights in the nest (or as soon as I know they are broody), I put her in a wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller wire(1x2) on the bottom but no bedding, set up on a couple of 4x4's right in the coop or run with feed and water.

After 48 hours I let her out of crate very near roosting time(30-60 mins) if she goes to roost great, if she goes to nest put her back in crate for another 48 hours.

Tho not necessary a chunk of 2x4 for a 'roost' was added to crate floor, gives the feet a break from the wire floor and encourages roosting.

Thank you. Right now she kind of adopted a 3 month old silkie so I think I will let the broodiness run its course but thanks again
