I am selling my Silkie chicks locally and I would like to keep some of the chicks for myself if they are Splash and Lavender. Is it fairly easy to tell them apart from Blue, White? I have BBS and whites in my pen now with a chance of some of them carrying the lavender gene. If not at hatch, how long after would I be able to tell for sure? There not due til the first week of April. Thanks!

splash and lavender will be silvery grey. Splash can be nearly white at hatching, but there are dark splashes that look like blue. If you really want to keep all the splashes you need to let their feathers grow out so you can see if there are dark patches or not. If you just want the light splashes, then sell everything that looks off black or black at hatching. later on if some of your "maybe splashes" turn out blue, you can sell them too. Never had trouble selling blue silkies before, lol.

Thanks, I hope I'm able to tell because I have people who have pre-ordered (but I didn't ask for payment til they picked up) and some are asking for Lavender...If I get a lavender I'm not giving them up because I don't have any yet...lol I'm going to be greedy with them
