is it enough space

Hi, welcome to the forum, glad you joined!

You are dealing with living animals so there are no firm fixed numbers that work for everyone. Each animal has its own personality, some like close company, some don't.

Are they baby chicks or are they older? If they are babies, by the time your weather warms up they can go outside. Young chicks do not need that much room. Is this a brooder in your heated house and the cage will be totally separate?

For most people 18 square feet total can work for three hens. If it is just a brooder until they get bigger and can then go outside it is huge.

I don't like it being that thin. One chicken can't walk past another without getting pretty close. Most will be OK with that but some have the personality that they don't like it.

There are too many unknowns for me to be able to tell you that it definitely will or will not work. I'd probably try it.
there full grown or almost full grown and thats the smallest part of the cage it gets to about 4 ft wide the farther you go up I'm using a dog play pen with garden wire on top and I have a nesting box and I have hemp bedding

I appreciate you getting back with more info. It is frustrating when we ask for more info so we can help and people just disappear.

Yours is not as easy as some of these questions. My biggest concern is the width. I'd give it a try but I'd have a perch or roost so they can fly up to get out of each other's way if they need to. Try to not block your access. 2-1/2 feet wide is not a lot for you or them.

You can get some wild weather in the Calgary area this time of the year. Cold and storms. Your chickens are old enough to handle any weather adults can manage. I'd try to get them outside as soon as I reasonably could. They'll need protection from the wind and you don't want them to locked into a small area by snow or weather for very long.

Good luck!
