Is it even worth it?

A covered run or electric fence could completely solve predator issues. You can make the run or buy it, but make sure it is hardware cloth, NOT chicken wire. Chicken wire keeps birds in but predators can reach through the holes or rip thru it. Not sure why it’s called chicken wire.

A slick wire a.k.a. a high tinsel type electric fence, or an electrified barbed wire fence, or a combination of the two wires will dissuade almost every Earth bound chicken predator known to man. I especially like the electrified barbed wire option because pain in the backside kids and adults are less likely to touch it and the wire is more robust thus it is able to deliver a bigger let us say "bang" for the buck.
