Shaka has been squabbling for about 20 minutes now and going in and out of the coop, running around in the yard away from other girls… curious if she is looking for a place to lay? Going on 21 weeks!

The first egg!!!! It’s green!!!!! And so cute and tiny!!

Beautiful!

I have had one hen who always laid pixelated eggs. I have had others who occassionally had speckles. You'll find out as she continues to lay.

Yes, a pullet's first egg is often small and they usually settle into a consistent size after a few weeks.

New layers' eggs are notoriously wonky with both tiny eggs and giant eggs possible. They may also lay weirdly-shaped eggs -- I've got one who started with long, pointy eggs. But it's only a problem if it becomes a persistent problem rather than just a few odd eggs as they get their startup running smoothly.
