is it good for chickens to eat tablescraps?

I feed my chickens table scraps. Mine will not touch lettuce though. Makes me wonder if I should be eating lettuce if the chickens wont touch it.

Iceburg lettuce is not on the "approved" list of foods for my bunny because it apparently has no nutritional value.

But I still eat it.

Yeah I eat it too. I like salads. I was joking, but I am surprised my chickens wont touch it though.

Mine aren't crazy about iceberg or romaine lettuce, but this morning I found they LOVE butter lettuce! I put a handful in a suet cage this morning, thinking they would pick at it all day...more of a toy for them then serious nutrition. Five minutes later the cage was empty!

I guess it might depend on what you eat at your table whether the table scraps are a good idea

I gave my hens my mom's leftover taco bell once and they gobbled it all up, taco shells and all. But I felt guilty about it. IMO Taco Bell is not actually food!

LOL! When I was a kid at home, on more than one occasion when throwing a paper plate of table scraps into the pen, the paper plate would slip out of hand and go in too - next morning there would be no evidence of said paper plate!

I feed my boys and girls lettuce about once a week. You can tell its not their favorite table scrap. I give them lots of table scraps, but do refrain from giving them any poultry. I have a coworker who is Vietnamese and he has tried following a diet that his brother (a chicken farmer back in Vietnam) told him to try. It has a lot of lettuce and cabbage in the chickens diet, along with beef scraps and bugs. Its too expensive to do here though, plus the brother is raising Shamo's for fighting, while my coworker is raising silkies and banties for pets.

Every few days I clean out the fridge & everything goes to the chickens. If you can eat it they can eat it. Once in awhile there's something they don't seem to care for but as a general rule they clean it up in no time.
