Is It Healthy To Only Have One Chicken?

God help them if there are crickets in their yard... or tree frogs, or (gasp) birds singing! Imagine the noise!

Amazing what people find to complain about, isn't it? Buy 'em some ear plugs.

I don't think buying them some earplugs would be a good idea... It would seem a little disrespectful in a way, and I was taught to always respect the elders

Buy them some earplugs and put them in a box with a bow on it, so then it's a nice present. Then buy another chicken that looks just like the one you already have. So if they complain you can just say you only have one and they must be seeing double.

Are you in a subdivision or something? I just hate it when there are restrictions on things that shouldn't matter. what about outlawing vicious dogs that kill at the drop of a hat, or ppl. in general that let their dogs roam the neighborhood and destroy other ppl.'s property. There, now I can get off of my soapbox. I feel much better.

Yes, I do live in a subdivision, and here alot of people listen to the elders alot and unfortunately the neighbors complaing are ELDERS!

Oh dear. Check the Covenants and any HOAs. They can really become a problem.

That's a good idea! But what would I do IF the inspector came? Should I hide one of the chickens?

It's just so strange to me that an elderly couple who sit outside a lot wouldn't like to observe chickens and hear their precious peeping. It's too bad. my neighbor's daughters love to come see the chickens and they bring their friends and grandfather etc to come see them too. It was a great way to get closer to my neighbors. Maybe you should promise them some eggs...?

The peeps of baby chicks are hardly distinguishable from birds chirping...well in my opinion, anyway. A year for your chick without another chicken buddy doesn't sound like a nice prospect. In all sincerirty, get at least one more, or maybe give the other chick away. (Gasp!)

So is it illegal to have your chicken? I can't fault you for having them, but find a loophole. Maybe raise 2 INSIDE?!? Is that too gross?

I am so unlucky to have neighbors that aren't very fond of chickens! I have seen alot of other people's neighbors that LOVE their chickens. SO UNFAIR!

But pouting about it won't help! I need to move now!

I've heard of some people raising chickens inside...kinda like the average housepet. Maybe there is a loophole to be found there...

I think 2 of my neighbors are gonna have a fit when they realize we are going to get chickens - and a rooster too!!

..... Unfortunately for them we can keep as many as we want, according to the town laws.
