Is it humane to drown a cat because it attacked your livestock?

In Wyoming feral cats are considered predators and it's perfectly legal to shoot them. We live in an area where people dump cats that they don't want. They go feral quickly and they kill everything they can catch. Killing one of my guineas led to cleaning out the feral cats from the neighborhood. We hate killing anything but you gotta do what you gotta do....

I have live trapped cats that were obviously somebody's pet that just got lost. They purr and beg to be held. Those were taken to the animal shelter. But a feral cat is easy to tell the difference. A feral cat goes nuts in the trap and will tear you apart if they can get to you. Those are 'shoot, shovel, and shut up!'

Is it humane to drown a cat because it attacked your livestock? I was reading on a quail thread earlier today. Someone had trapped a feral cat because it had tried to get into the quail cage. Then that person took the cage with the trapped cat inside and pushed the cage under water. I know farmers need to protect their livelihood. Any time it is necessary to get rid of a predator, i always hope a person can reason in the midst of their anger to do the job quickly with as little suffering as possible.
I am concerned about the mentality of someone who has to ask others for the answer to that question.

Why is this even being asked??????? Animals do what they do out of instincts, and if you as a human do not under stand that fact you should not even have animals.
I am going to stop there now before I get myself banned from BYC

Farmers clearly have been taught/learned that killing ANYTHING is perfectly ok to protect the Almighty Dollar! Lack of conscience? Moral integrity?
I wonder if anyone has every done a survey or has a hypothesis as to how many farmers are closet serial killers/molester/abusers that just haven't been caught?
so in your opinion its okay for domestic animals to die a horrible death then for a farmer to protect his livestock?

lets be real here. i live in the western Canada. there are a lot of ranchers and farmers. so am going to tell a story. i was hunting on this guys ranch up north. tells us that the wolves and bears are so bad they eat and kill the calves and cows when there giving birth. he has seen bears rip the calf out of its mother and eat it alive. so in your opinion that is 100% okay that he lost income, the animal (which by the way is only minutes old) gets to be torn to pieces alive?

has to get people to trap and hunt on his land. to keep everything in check (which i should note is legal here for us to hunt and trap both bears and wolves)

That's cold blooded. I've nearly drowned myself. That's no way to go.
