Hi All, we got our chicks today, and I've been keeping a real close eye on them. (the brooder tub is at my feet as I type this).
all the chicks seem to be healthy and stable, eat some, run around some, play "tug 'o war" with the newspaper shreads some, and sleep some.

I've noticed that when it is "nap time" for everyone, the Buff Orpington sleeps while standing up 90% of the time, while all the other 4 breeds loosely huddle and lay down completey, with there bodys all streched out and comfy.

The B.O. DOES lay down, for a little bit with the rest of them, but most of the time it sleeps, it does so while standing up.

so is this just a B.O. thing???

Some of mine did that too, but not all of them. It was funny to look in there and see all of them asleep, some sitting up, some standing and the rest flopped every which way. One of my roos still sleeps sitting up on top of the hen house (guarding his girls I guess).

One of mine does that. I had wondered too. My ameracaunas do it too though so maybe it is a chicken thing?

I have some of other breeds that do that too. It's so cute when they are standing there dozing and start tipping forward as their little eyes are closing.

Mine have done that too! I dont remember my RIR's, EE's or BR's doing that at all. They always laid down. I have 3 BO's--that just turned a week old--do it. So weird!
