Is it just me or does this Quail forum move really really slow?

Really Slow Lately...cva34

I was a active member on the quail at one time but i seen to many ppl being (newbies & oldies) being torn apart No way to act. Those ppl have chased many off.I rarely come in anymore found other places to get information.

I might shouldn't comment but here goes. The problem that I've noticed here there's really no one way to raise animals. Like the post can you raise chickens with quail threads. That one blew my mind.I mean people told me that me having chickens next to my Bob Whites can't be done. They told me that if the wind blew the wrong way the quail would all die. I try only to give answers to questions that I have experienced in my adventures of raising birds. One things for sure there's more than one way to skin a cat. Another thread that blew me away was you can't raise quail on the ground. I was like what they live on the ground in the wild. You just never know when somethings gonna go wrong. All you can do is provide your birds with adequate space & everyone knows that I like big pens & provide the birds with fresh water & fresh feed daily.

I agree! There are so many different ways to do it - each has advantages and disadvantages over the other, it's just a matter of asking your self what's going to work best for you and asking yourself which risks you are willing to take in exchange for other benefits. So many people get caught up in the idea that just because it worked well for them means that thier way is the end-all and everyone else who did something different must be stupid or wrong. That's one of my pet peeves in life-in-general.

I like to raise my birds on wire. I have seen hundreds of birds raised on the ground - doesn't mean it's what I would do, but it's been done. A lot. it just has different risks - just like raising on wire has risks too.

I think we all do what works best for us but if I am doing harm or there is potential for harm in the way I'm doing things of injuring or killing my birds I don't mind at all and would appreciate someone telling me in a constructive manner like an adult. I will take any advice or suggestions I can get but doesn't mean I will agree with them all or make changes to what I'm doing, but may state thank u but this works better for me, because ect. ect. Being a newbie I still have lots to learn and I ask for and welcome any help. Starting to think the issue is people have become afraid to post because a few who don't think or bother to reread their post b4 hitting submit or maybe are afraid of being criticized for giving advice and being told its wrong and that's a shame. It make it tougher for new people to get the answers and help they r looking for and that in itself can b very frustrating. I don't like feeling like I don't exist or that I'm not important enough to bother offering help too. I guarantee these people who cant take moment to give a newbie a simple reply that if they had eggs or birds for sale and a newbie sd they were having issues using their paypal account to buy them. I bet all the sudden these unhelpful people could take the time to reply back on that or even write a full page tutorial on how to use paypal. I know from my experience so far as a newbie on here I would b 10 times more likely to buy from someone who took a moment to help me in the past even if that meant paying more. Now those that live on here and frequent the forum often who had the answers but could never take a moment to help me, I don't care if their birds r much better quality, priced cheaper or were even close enough to pick up. Chances r I wont b making a purchase with them. If I'm not good enough or important enough to help, their birds r probably to good for me too and would b pointless to even think I might get help from them with my purchase or if the future I had an issue come up with the birds I purchased from them. As a newbie I have been trying to offer help to other newbies cause most of the time its a question I had also and have done the research recently to get the answer but always state that I am new and based on what I have read or found this is the answer I got but don't know from experience. Some people have an issue with newbies answering other newbies questions but what makes no sense to me is that when the post had been up for days sometimes weeks with no reply from anyone. These same people that r knowledgeable and knew the answer never had a problem not bothering to even offer help or an answer themselves. Their problem is that someone else thought they deserved an answer and that person was also new and in their opinion shouldn't b offering help. So rather then help someone they would prefer no one else did either. I would also hope tho that if I did give someone incorrect info, that someone more experienced would b nice enough to step in and correct me in a way a normal adult would and I would thank them for it. I'm still hanging out and trying to use the forum and learn and educate myself on quail and lately have noticed there r some people on here that have came around and r very helpful. Some even experiencing the same issues themselves when they were new even posting pics as examples ect. These people r making me feel welcome finally and that I do exist to the point I'm feeling there is potential to making friends on the forum so thank u guys.

To those of u that r also new and r also members of the chicken forum. I have found it does seem people who keep chickens do greatly out-number the amount of people who keep quail or both which does account for part of the reason this thread does move slowly.

I also wonder how many people have tried or were interested in keeping quail no longer do or have changed their minds about getting them. I can see alot of the chicken forum people getting them but had a bad experience with them and were not able to get the help they needed when they did thinking they could rely on this forum for help as they have reallied on the chicken forum. Other chicken forum members who were interested in trying may have figured out this forum wasn't as reliable for getting the answers they needed and were also treated as if they didn't exist and quickly lost interest in the idea of keeping them and moved on. Just a thought but if people were more helpful on this forum then it would probably move more quickly and have many more members cause newbies might actually have a better experience keeping or raising these birds with just a little help and advice, maybe continue and enjoy the hobby. Those currently thinking about trying quail might actually have the confidence to go ahead and try or become more excited about it if they felt like their was people they could rely on and might offer help to them as newbie owners. The chicken forum is fun to b a part of, in my opinion,. but wonder if the quail forum doesn't seem as fun to the newbies as the chicken forum does

Yeah i think you have a pretty good point JHorn - I came to this forum earlier this year because I had some quail again for the first time in about 2 years and really want to get back into it again, heavily like I used to, and i really enjoy promoting them as a hobby and helping new people. As a matter of fact I had someone on youtube ask fi they could phone me to ask questions as he was a senior and it was just easier for him to talk in person and I ended spending almost 2 hours with him on the phone! I like that. But I really don't like it when posters get contradicted by other posters so if it's a subject that people are apt to "debate" about, you're right, I'm sometimes afraid to get involved because in the end of it all my opinion is just that, one opinion out of hundreds that doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things and it's not worth fighting over. I'm really kinda sensitive actually so I get really wound up if I get into a debate online. An online debate with a stranger who doesn't even have a face or voice upsets me just as much as a face to face debate with a friend so I have to distance myself a little bit from it for my own sanity lol.

Been silently lurking this thread for a while, finally decided to join Backyard Chickens earlier this week...

I'm a quail newbie to the extreme degree -- I haven't even gotten my quail yet! -- but if I may offer my two cents just from research alone, I am completely in agreement with JHorn. I've done a lot of research because I know these are very *different* animals from anything else I've ever kept and I want to make sure I'm doing it right. But I hate that when I search up information on quails that everyone seems to be contradicting each other.

I joined one group for quail where everyone seemed to be following just one poster's viewpoints, simply because they had written a book about quail. After a while I started feeling frustrated because everything seemed to come down to just this one person thought, or else it became this huge fight between the whole group. I don't and I've never liked that sort of mentality because I feel like everyone else does things differently, why do I have to do everything by the book and why am I trouble if I don't? (no pun intended)

Another thing that's hard is that in other groups I've been in, if you ask a question that experienced quail owners know the answer to, I feel like everyone jumps on you for not knowing the answer... it's hard as a newbie to want to look for reliable resources and look for help. I find it much more helpful to talk to people one on one, and I've done so to get a lot better information. (I've contacted jbobs in the past on Facebook about her blog -- thank you so much for all the helpful answers!)

All of this research on quail has made me want to do surveys on quail keeping to see what people do in general, rather than having all these contradicting answers, but ha, the last time I tried that, no one filled out my survey...

I don't know, I joined BYC hoping that I'd get a little more information, and to be truthful I am, I just hope that one day learning about quail can be a LOT easier.

i been messing with quail for 2 years and hear alot about people wanting but not many buying ? So anyone near western ky looking for quail give me a shout :)... might be able to help ...

OK so new to quail and this forum but have been a member of BYC for several years just looks like I'm new cause I stopped using my account for about a year and when I came back it didn't exist. B4 that I had a different user name and hundreds of post but that's another story.

Just seems like alot of post on this forum go unanswered or if anything r given a comment or two that's not helpful and left at that. Maybe I'm just used to the speed of BYC chicken forum and u have to check back in a week or two on here instead of the next day or two or maybe quail people r more reserved and not as helpful or something. Al tho there is a lot of useful info on here, if u search the threads, it makes me wonder. Does anyone know of another quail forum that's a little more up to speed as the chicken forums or maybe another site that's more dedicated to quail maybe? I will still use this one but probably just check it every few weeks or so instead of daily to catch up. Looking for one where people r more interested in talking about their birds and I can learn and find more info quicker and not get bored with after a couple weeks. I'm gonna guess if there is such a forum that maybe some of u r also members of it as well. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I been raising all sorts of quail for 30 yrs.I tried to help many on here at times, but then you get ppl that come in place their 2 cents thats raised a few yrs an think someone doing it for 30 odd years is not doing it right? come on i had quail before most was born or off breast milk. I watch how this one group click an belittles newbies without helping just cause belittling comments Not just newbies but the older members also. Dont think i will deal with a bunch of kids trying to DOMINATE THE QUAIL WORLD.Which all they are doing is making more ppl stir away from this section. One said here they dont wanna comment due to the reaction thats so sad to feel that way on a forum thats public,But understood the more i read on here. BTW TRY 2500 QUAIL...lol im always outside doing something :)
