I check often since it's easy to - the run is just outside the living room and my hubby (currently working from home) likes to go and look out the window when taking breaks. If I hear an egg song, any ruckus, or if there's just a bird that seems off and I want to keep an eye on their activity, etc, I'll go look out the window too.
We also have a coop cam which we installed for nightly roost checks and was handy for catching a thieving squirrel in action too.
