Is it just me, or do any of my fellow chicken herders go back in the evenings and throughout the day to check on the chicks and check to make sure all the latches, locks, etc. are in place and secure? I’m kinda OCD about that. And I work from home so I have the ability to do that throughout the day. So maybe it IS just me?! Lol!

I go out and check several times a day.

Especially as they drink so much water.

I only have a one gallon waterer right now, but a friend is making me a 5 gallon one with horizontal poultry nipples.

Where in N. Texas? I’m in Princeton.

yes it’s been hot here as well. But I’m in north central Arkansas.

We do this all the time. Our dogs actually know certain chicken calls and when they hear a warning from the roosters they bark to let us know.

I don’t have a rooster and I don’t free range. But like I said, I’m OCD about stuff like that!

I must admit I don't check them that often. I do check the birds every morning when I make my rounds and change out the game cameras memory cards. Sometimes I go out during the day and sometimes I don't until it's time to collect the eggs. I don't worry much about the birds because I have them well protected. I have electric wire going around the pens and coops, concrete under the gates and good heavy duty netting covering all of the pens. I see predators on my cameras most nights but they know the electric wires are there.
