Actually, in production birds, the "upright tail" can be in males and females. It's when the tail lengthens and curves that you can notice they are males.

Also, females will tend to grow their tails faster than the males will, but again, that's just generally speaking.
 
ok thanks that helps alot so i will see then i am trying to decise which of my chicks to sale and which to keep i know i am keeping th naked neck (hoping its a pullet) and then the other chick i have which is eathier a ee or a golden laced wyandotte, but i have like 5 black and white ones os i am trying to see if i can get a pullet out of those, this was one of those 5
 
Yes I think it's a pullet also. That chick's a strong resemblance to mine when she was a little chicky.

BR pullets will look almost black when they first start feathering. The cockerels will have noticeable barring on their feathers from very early on. The pullets also normally have black on their legs, more than the cockerels do. I would say it is a pullet.
