Is it neccessary for ducks to have a pool or pond to um....

Depends. SOME breeds perform the deed whilst swimming.

Many ducks don't need a pool or a pond at all, for ANY reason other than to dabble in because they're ducks. Just a little dishpan of water to play in will suffice for play purposes.

So, guess it depends on which ducks you're considering.

Nope. In fact , as I type im looking out the windown to see my swede mutt drake standing on the back of my magpie hen in the front yard, lol

My Ancona and Harlequins prefer to be in the water but they mate out of the water as well. So really depends on the duck I would think.

So I guess I need to keep breeds separate if I want pure breeds. I thought about housing 2 pairs together and only letting out one pair at a time for pool time. But I guess that won't work. Thanks for your replies. Ducks can be so funny!

my scovies used to do it in my room

duckie would wait till i got home and turned on the light to do his deed. then he'd walk around the bedroom with his doodle out and hissing. he was prolly saying "i am THE man" LOL
