hi BYC Peeps!
I have a (now 9 mo old) blue Andalusian that started laying at around 18 weeks. That put us around late aug/sept.
She completely stopped laying mid to late October.
Her demeanor also changed (became distant from people, flighty and seems to have been knocked down the pecking order a bit). She eats fine and is active.
Is this normal for such a young chicken? She hasn't been through a molt yet.
Thanks everyone!

what do you feed?
was she molting?
any sickness?
is she hiding her nests?
They were all being fed Purina layer but then switched to Helens best layer feed. I thought it was the switch in food maybe so after the Helen's best, we went back Purina.
Of course free choice oyster shell too.
No molting, only noticed her comb shrunk and became more pale. No sickness either. Oh and no nests anywhere.

I know this isn't advice, but the same thing happened to my 3-10 month olds. (1 Black Copper Maran and 2 Olive Eggers) They were all laying up until the week of Christmas and haven't seen an egg since. They have a healthy appetite, drink plenty, they get out of the coop almost everyday. They have crushed oyster shells and I feed them fruits and veggie scraps. I'm not sure what's going on but I was under the impression that most Spring chicks layed through their first winter.
My BCM comb's has also shrunk but still seems spunky and active. Do not think she is sick.
I haven't used any supplemental lighting but it has been extremely cold here. Didn't know if that would effect them.
This is my first year raising chickens. Any advice is great.

I would expect that once day length reaches 12 + hours per day she will start laying again. What % protein are you feeding?
