Is it normal for a hen that's just beginning to lay to lay tiny eggs?

I have a Rhode Island Red hen that I've had sence she was 3 days old and she's just at the right age to begin laying. Recently she laid what it believe is her first egg, and the egg was 3 times smaller than a normal sized egg. So my question is, is it a normal thing or is it just a one time thing to end up with a tiny egg?

Pullets that are just beginning to lay often lay smaller eggs. In a few weeks, she should be laying normal sized eggs.
