I have an Americana who I’m pretty certain is a hen, nine months old, and is mounting my other hens. Is that normal?? I haven’t heard any rooster crowing or anything else that makes me believe it’s a Roo. I’ve just never heard of a hen mounting other hens before. Or am I completely wrong and it’s a Roo who just doesn’t crow?

If it’s an “Americana” then it’s most likely an Easter Egger. Dominant females do/can mount other females. It’s possible it’s male I think, in which then it would be called a cockerel as it’s under a year old. True Ameraucanas (note the spelling) mature later than most breeds, but at 9 months s/he should be a RTL pullet who is being dominant towards the other pullets or a very slow maturing cockerel.

The pictures should be able to show us what you have when you post them :thumbsup I’m excited as I have some black Ameraucanas and love all the different coloured egg breeds :love

Thank you for the advice and the correction on spelling! I never actually had to spell it before I just call them Easter Eggers. Haha but I just went out to take a picture and here she is.
