Is it normal for a new hatching

not to be able to stand, its on its side?it can't get up?

For a while, they are pretty exhausted. I've had a few that kind of just lay there for a bit. So I guess, the question would be, how long has it been since it hatched?

I don't think any of mine went that long. They will usually get up after a bit, and stumble around, barely able to stand up straight. You might have an issue...

was it an assisted hatch? Or did it hatch before day 21? soemtimes these take longer to perk up. I've hd chicks take a full day to recover, but if leftin the incubator to just rest hopefully yours will recover ok. I have one doign this now who bled a bit when it hatched...I just gave it some sugar wter by putting the water in the palm of my hand and dipping it's bill in (a duck vs a chicken). It's back in the hete dbator now laying on it's side again.

Just had my first hatchling on 11/15. It took it a full 24 hours plus some to get the hang of walking. Keep your chick warm and check on it periodically. By day two mine was walking around more and looked more normal acting. Water is essential, too, after about 24 hours. It'll prob be fine.

Some take longer to find their legs than others do.
