Is it normal for so many eggs to be clear??

Sorry, don't know why I thought it was day 5. I would risk one and open it and see if there was ANY development at all OR if there is a bullseye indicating fertility.

If it isn't fertile, you can probably assume there is an issue and contact the person you got the eggs from.

Sorry. What kind of eggs are you incubating?

Deb

artathart was at day 5..that's where there was confusion

I may crack one open in a few days to see. I have 16 B/B/S Orpingtons ( 10 out of 16 clear) 7 BLRW (4 clear) and 8 blue copper marans ( very hard to tell but I think they all looked ok).

Dang! I can see why you are heartsick! Do you think the seller would work with you if they really are all "duds"?

Thanks! The ones I'm the most concered with are the orpingtons since sooo many of them aren't developing. The lady is really nice and lives closeby so I'm sure she'd work with me. I almost just feel like buying chicks at this point instead of incubating. This is my 2nd try and it's soo frustrating!

Lroach - can you tell us how you are incubating, what kind of incubator, temp, humidity, etc. Maybe there is something slightly amiss in the process.

I have an older model LG (added a pc fan so circulating air). Temp has been very steady around 99.5. The highest it gets is about 100.4. And it doesn't drop below 99. Humidity has been between 30 and 40%. I have 3 thermometers in there and they all read the same. One is digital and 2 mercury. I have calibrated my hygrometer and know it's low by about 3%.

auto turner. and not really sure as far as whether they're english or american

You'd know. English are very very heavy feathered. I ask because some folks are having fertility issues with them due to too much feathering.

My suggestion is this.....let them sit til day 10. recandle then. I incubate orps constantly and sometimes they can fool you. At day 10 it should be perfectly obvious what's viable and what's not. I would contact the seller now and let her know what you think you've got and tell her you are going to wait til day 10 to be absolutely sure.

If she is a person concerned with repeat business, she will offer replacements. If not, unfortunately, chock it p to lesson learned and begin your "never buy from.... again" list. I have a very very long one!
