Is it normal for them to begin trusting you around 3 weeks old?

I have been handling my chicks just about daily for short periods of time. Yesterday I saw the difference between our new mystery chick, stripy and our other chick's we have had for a week and a half. The new chick was panicked and terrified. Our older chick's on the other hand complain but then calmed down after a moment of calmness. Violet, our BR chick even flew from the coffee table to my arm. (where she promptly pooped... ummm... thanks Vi for the "present") So is it normal for them to become comfortable with their human family so quickly?

i would say yes, but it really all depends on the personality of the chick. I have a rooster that i got about two weeks( so hes 2 weeks old, and a sex link so you can tell he is a roo) and there are about twenty other chicks, but he is the happiest to see me already. He has started to fly, so he will perch on the brooder edge until i pick him up, oh and if i dont he uses the most obnoxious peeping noise i have evry heard until i pick him up. on the other hand, some of the other chicks are still very skittish and will not come to me unless i have a treat or food in my hand. like i said, it depends on the chick and give them some time and they will get used to you.

Mine are going on 3 weeks, and if Im gone for more than just a few hours.. They all seem to be excited to see me. When I open the brooder more often than not one, sometimes two fly out into my hands. Its pretty cool. I think just letting them get to know you is the trick. So if someone only sees their chicks a couple times a day, and has little quality time it will take longer than if someone who has multiple people, at various times during the day "buggin" the chicks would. Its so neat to see how much they actually grow everyday! These are my first chickies!

@manda0227 - I know right! I work 10 hours a day, my DH works 8 and then after work during the week were usually either busy around the house or running errands our only saving grace was the fact that our chicks brooder (that was just built to give them more space because the old one was out grown like... the day they were brought home) is in the living room. Every day we spend at least a few hours very close to the brooder listening to music with the girls or ... more likely watching daddy play video games.... Ok I play too. eh what can I say... there is a kid in us all

i have a buff orpington who i got when she was around 1 or 2 weeks old. i have been her momma since the day we got her. she cuddles up to me and sleeps with me, she perches on my shoulder, plays with my hair, gives me kisses, doesnt poop on me, will fly out of her brooder to greet me, and follows me around. she is so cute

i love her very very much.

Awww! Iv heard great things about those buff orpington girls (I was spelling it obrington lol). Personally, I am really BLOWN away about the personality, the distinct difference between each individual. They are really amazing creatures.

it is amazing. we have two buff orpingtons. mine is mellow, loving, kinda motherly to the others. laid back yet curious. the other is younger, and a bit of a bully! but still cute and nice. as if she wants to act all tough but is really just a sweetheart. i love watching them all!
