Is it normal... Rooster Behaviors & Questions

Roosters watch and observe everything that's there job so he's like why is she staring at me and walking towards me looking nervous so he prepares to flight as if your a predator coming to get him
He is a lover to his girls he won't harm no one and he's only a year old right?

Has he ever shown aggression towards you or other family members? I wouldn't think he would try and attack you, if not, but might put up a ruckus trying to get away. Mine flap a little and squawk, but I've never had one try and take me. Just get a good grip on him when you and grab him.

Lordy, I hear ya. We finally had our lot bared off to muck/mud and got hit with about 8" Friday. And a balmy -12 this morning! Lovely Montana weather haha. February is always crazy, huh?

Yup tomorrow night says 0 degrees I have baby chicks in mail from cackle hatchery on there way I hope they hold up

Ah, we are in the same worrisome boat then! Fingers crossed both of our shipments of chickies arrive on their feet

Roosters are actually more friendly than hens he won't attack you I was scared of mine at first but there's a certain way to pick them up and calm them down that I've learned from reading from black thistle farm and it works
It's that your scared of him and he sees your unsure of the situation so he is very unsure

That definitely depends on breeding. I have owned a few roosters that were vicious and would flog me continually with spurs. They were not afraid of me at all....

Mine are all under a year old so they might change as they mature huh?

I am not sure of his age. He seemed to be the same size, etc. when he was thrown over the fence to us - that was in June of 2017. Rudy has never shown aggression towards either of us. We are still very much novices when it comes to chicken behaviors, so everything is a guess, but he did seem a little aggressive to the two pullets when they first flew over the fence to join our tiny 'flock' of Rudy and Tootie. BUT, when they became laying age, they have become best buds. (The pullets are Tina & Rosie) Tina is like his little shadow - she laid her first egg this week. So, no he has never been aggressive, but those spurs seem to get bigger and bigger!

He is still limping around. Today was the 2nd day that our 3 babies (11 weeks tomorrow) were allowed to be with the others, unsupervised, all day. We had 20 to 30mph winds all day. The babies spent a lot of the day in the coop/run of the older birds - none of them seemed to care! I may try to catch him again tomorrow, but it really seems to stress him out as much as it does us!
