Two of my father's buff orpington hens have gone broody. They were hatched on April 25 and they just started laying the first of September. So after laying just a month and a half, two are broody. Is it normal for hens that young to go broody?? I've had lots of experience with broody hens, but none of mine have ever gone broody right after they first started laying, so I was just curious. Thanks!

My BO's were born in April also, and one is broody, and another
is 'entertaining' the idea.

I got some fertilized eggs from a friend, and put them under Bubbles, the
broody. We'll see what happens in 3 weeks.

I've had the BO's for about 6 weeks. Everything I read said that they would
lay about 3 eggs a week. Between the 4 BO's and one Austrolorp, I was
getting about 2 dozen eggs a week. I was giving eggs to anyone that would
take them. I was hoping that they would slow down, didn't realized that I
was wishing for a broody!

I'm pretty easily entertained, so I guess that the fact that chickens just tickle
me is no surprise. A few days ago, they spotted me and came running down the
drive way, one of the funniest sites I've seen in a while.

Simple things for simple minds I guess.

Loving my chickens!

I love my chickens too! Who would have thought that chickens would be so fun and entertaining. My BO's have been laying really well too. They are from the same hatch as my father's...born in April....so I guess I can expect some of them to go broody soon too!

Yeppers mine were born April 17th and I have 2 that are broody. One girl has hatched out 7 today my Jap Bantam. My Blk Cochin is sitting on 6.......
