is it normal?

Is it "normal" for baby chicks to be so attached? I have 2 BO chicks that are 9 weeks old today..one is a known Roo Mr Russell the roo and the other is unknown sex we call her Miss Lizzy, they are always trying to be on me.... I put them out during the day in their own pen but both of them always come to the door and jump out on me..they never want to be anywhere but near me...when I bring them in at night...they cry and always bump the top of their pen trying to get out...I have to hold them all the time..I know I spoil them..but when do they become more indepedent? in a couple of weeks I am moving them outside for good...I want them to enjoy their time in their new pen and enjoy their time outside..I just always feel so bad because they just want to come out and hang out with me...don't get me wrong..the fact that they want to be around me is great and I love it..I just want them to enjoy themselves outside and explore...these 2 chicks are 2 of the 17 chicks I rescued out of the trash back in feb..I rehomed 15 of them and kept these two because they were so friendly...

They will eventually adjust to being a flock. Sounds like they imprinted on you. Just enjoy your time with them, then put them down and walk away.

Awwww. they know that you saved them and are eternally grateful. I'd love mine to be that friendly. As long as they have each other, they will enjoy their time away from you and eventually make new friends in the flock.

That is pretty normal. I have 14 chicks in a brooder right now, and they're about 2 weeks old, and there is always a few that are extra curious and friendly, and then there are a few that avoid me at all cost and are shy.

Don't feel bad about putting them outside......That's where they naturally belong and before you know it, they'll just LOVE IT! And it'll be great because when you go outside, and talk to them and bring a treat or feed or whatever, they'll run to you and it's just a nice feeling.......

I've got two hens from last year that are so so friendly.....Sometimes they'll fly right up onto my shoulder for attention....Or the top of my head.....They're a smaller breed, but not bantam......I just love it.

My first three chicks ever were three Golden Buffs from the Meyer Hatchery.....I babied those ladies like no other. Daisy, Lily and Violet. Violet was taken by a hawk her first year. Daisy and Lily were my garden helpers. Whenever I was outside, they were always right with me.....And they were such good company. Now only Daisy remains. I lost Lily this winter.....

I do think it's nice to have friendly chickens.....They really pull at the heart strings.....

My new chicks are the same way, roughly half avoid me like the plague and the other half try to smother me. It's tough not letting the imprint happen, especially if you plan to butcher and eat your roos and older hens.

That's adorable! I had a BO like that and she is still the sweetest most affectionate girl we have. The other 2 super friendly babies turned out to be roos and had to be rehomed. Enjoy her! She'll adjust. She'll probably LOVE being outside!
