I've read so many posts on here and other websites, where people said they feed Egg Shells and/or Hard Boiled Eggs to their chicks, so I'd like to give it a try. Unfortunately none of my girls are laying yet, so all I have are store bought eggs. Is it ok to feed them? Or are the shells treated with something?

Thanks!

ETA Not sure if it makes a difference, but I use cage free or free range eggs.

I would GUESS it would be safe. Commercial eggs are all put through a wash before they're packaged. Egg shells being porous, I would GUESS they would use water and nothing more toxic than a mild detergent. But then it all depends on how much trust you place in the corporate world.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it, and would wash the shells again real well, dry them out in the oven and then feed them.
