Is it ok to feed your chicken's chicken?

My chickens somehow love boiled chicken or scrambled eggs...I guess i've never thought about it as a chicken eating another chicken...hmm....

It seems strange to feed chickens chicken--cannibalism, even when well prepared in the kitchen, is just wrong to me. I do feed them eggs though, and that freaks out my co-workers when I tell them about it. I also think it seems strange to feed them things like beef or pork since I can't imagine a chicken hunting down a cow or a pig and eating it. Chickens are good predators, but I don't think they could catch and kill a cow! I feed mine fish sometimes--they love salmon skin. And they eat a lot of insects. I'm sure there are all kinds of animals in their chicken food. And I don't think it's unhealthy to feed them chicken, beef, or pork; I just can't do it because I can't get over the idea of it all.

I haven't fed the girls any meat.

I season my cooking, and I'm hesitant to feed them seasoned "people food." I don't want to feed them the salt and fat.

Also, going out and picking up the bones and scraps is just one more thing for me to do before I go to bed. I don't need to encourage predators more than having chickens already attracts.

I have two dogs and one foster pup but I do not feed them table scraps. Thanks for everyones thoughts. I know it seems weird giving chicken to chickens but I'm good with it as long as its good for them. lol

I don't think there's any meat or meat byproducts in any poultry food in Canada any more.
Of course I could be wrong, but none of the feed available at either feed store on my island has any meat, rendered fat or anything.

Anyone else in Canada? Adoptedbyachicken?

You don't think they would hunt down a cow? I'm sure they wouldn't kill one either but i can't picture them with a fishing pole either. LOL It's funny how we can't wrap our brains around some of these things. Not putting anyone down. I have several of those don't seem right things in my brain too.

My grandma used to throw leftover chicken and dumplings in the yard and the chickens would beat the dogs to it. The chickens always seemed to be fine with it. I however avoid feeding my chickens chicken. BSE is thought to have come from a cow eating feed with beef byproducts in it. It may be fine for the chickens since they are supposed to eat meat but I don't take chances.
