Is it okay for an eggs to have blood on the outside?

So this Feb will be a year into chicken keeping. Today I found an egg in the run with blood on it. My old girls always lay in the boxes. We added new girls in Aug and they still don’t consistently lay in the boxes or get pushed out. I’m thinking about adding a box in the run to see if an extra spot will help. I have fake eggs inside the boxes. Help!?!

Sometimes the egg stretches the vent and causes the blood in new laying hens. As long as it isn’t s constant every day thing for weeks you should be fine.

Yeah just wait and see. There are blood vessels in the vent that can rupture. I had a few a few days ago but it has already stopped.

When I had chickens, I would have an egg like this every once in a blue moon. My girls were always fine, but like stated above I would just keep an eye on them.

Here is an article on egg quality problems. It reviews possibilities for blood on egg. Most likely young layer that had ruptured blood vessels on laying egg. Look also for lice or mite problem. If none just young and should correct self.

I had an egg with a little spot of blood yesterday. They are new layers also. No blood today.

That looks like blood splashed/dripped from a wound elsewhere than the vent....
...like maybe a comb or foot got cut. If it came from the vent it would likely be smeared.

Did your younger birds just start laying?
How many nests and how many birds total?
Sometimes there is some pecking order stuff going on when pullets first start laying,
they can get bullied from the nests and could be and actually comb bite that caused the blood drop on the egg.
