I am looking to take a branch off of my relatives rose bush so that I can try to root it and have my own rose bush.

Is it okay to cut a branch off of the rose bush now, in July? It has been in the 90's this week. If not, when is the best time?

Thanks in advance!

not best time, but it wont the exiting rose (good luck hurting one of those things). i think it would be hard to get the cutting to root.

In general, the best time to propagate a rose is in the cooler months; fall through early spring. That said, I have had mixed success doing it throughout the year and in different locations in my yard depending on weather, sunlight, rose variety, etc. Just keep trying and eventually you will succeed =)

I cut about 6ft of a climber off the neighbors rose bush after it had bloomed, cut it into about 4-6in pieces depending what size pot it was going into, and set them out in the garden. They all grew that summer, and when spring came 5 had new growth on them. I left them in the pots, I wish now I had repotted them in bigger ones, but live and learn. This spring 1 had growth and it had blossoms this summer and still has more buds on it today. As far as taking cuttings this time of year you'll only know next year if it was wrong. good luck.
