There's a pond here at my job, not an overly large pond but I guess it's decent. There's quite a few smaller ducks and a couple of - I'm guessing - mallards. Also 2 swans, 20 geese and about 14 (mostly neutered) cats a bit away inside the facility.
There's also 1 white muscovy duck. He's been here around 14 years. His mate got run over by a tractor-trailer 10+ years ago. He stays here year round, even in the winter. It was down to -15ish a few times earlier this year and he just stayed huddled up next to our office. He only flies in emergencies and prefers to limp around with an impressive limp. He's well fed since everyone kind of feeds everything around here. Dry water fowl food, cat food, bread (...yeah). Is it possible to get him a friend of his own ilk or no? He's friendly and wags his tail when you come up to him and I just feel badly for the old chap.

Is that Fall River MA? I used to drive a truck through there, not the one that ran over the Scovy's wife.
I'd say he's fine on his own, since he's made it this long. If you get another, that one will be lonely when this one goes. He's cute and I'm definitely going to visit him next time I'm down that way.

. Thumper650, I LOVE your profile pic! A duck in a truck!

Yes it is, that's pretty amazing! Despite best efforts things are on a slow decline here as the urban decay slowly increases.

We nicknamed him Waddles/Wattles, and alright :D I'll have to make him a winter shelter this year.

That makes me happy! :hugs

Please keep us updated on Waddles he is gorgeous.

I was looking at Purely Poultrys site a couple weeks ago and I am pretty sure Swan pairs were over 1000.00 I can't for the life of my understand how people can go and dump water fowl or anything for that matter.

Awww - that's sweet! How old do muscovy ducks live? he must be in that old age/twilight stage of life...? (I don't know ducks very well)

The cute lil fella has adapted to life changes really well so far - I'm sure he'll do great adjusting again. He'll certainly be happy to have some cover come wintertime!
