A lot of it depends what career you and/or any eventual spouse go into. If it's something like "plumber" that's very portable, you can live pretty much anywhere you choose, but if it is something like "computer programmer" or "fashion magazine editor" your choice is likely to be very much more limited.
Also remember that places with cheap land also generally have low salaries, relatively few jobs, and more-expensive groceries/gas/clothes/etc (and you'll use much more gas than if you lived in a densely populated area!). So a place with apparently dead-cheap land may actually be harder to afford to live in than somewhere with more-expensive land but where you can get a decent-paying job pretty easily. Which gets back to how you, and/or spouse, are making a living.
