Is it safe for chicks and hens to eat watermelon skins?

I had frozen watermelon and gave it to them as a treat in this hot weather and they loved it and I left them tucking into it. but when I went back out to check on them they had eaten the skins also, is it safe for them to eat the skins?

Oh yeah! I give my horses and dogs the whole watermelon, they love it!!

My chickens love any kind of melons and eat the flesh down until the rind is paper thin...your fine and they love it!!!
