Is it safe to use old wood from a previous chicken run?

Hi,

My husband is constructing a chicken run using new lumber and supplemental lumber from my Dad's old chicken run. It's not in great shape but it works for what we need in finishing the project. Are there any concerns we should be aware of as far as disease, parasites or cleansing of the material before use?

Thanks in advance!
Debbie

Welcome! If your dad's coop has been vacant for years, just general clean-up will be fine. Wear a N95 dust mask! If chickens were in it recently, and had Marek's disease, not good at all, and not safe. Mary
