Is it safe to use this on chickens??

Aart does know her stuff. I would not waste my money on that product if it is JUST DE. And if it has a lot of other additives, why on earth spend money on it at all if you are betting on DE killing parasites on your birds. IF I thought DE killed parasites, I'd be buying straight DE, not some product that was DE which is watered down with other ingredients.

If you have issues with external parasites, use a product that is shown to be effective. Permethrin is one such product: comes in powder, spray can, or liquid which you can mix with water to make a whole lot of product for a little money. Permethrin can be used to treat your birds, your coop, and your garden.

I would not use that product, for a couple reasons. Number one, I don't use DE period because not only is it not useful against parasites, it's a serious respiratory irritant. The silicone dioxide is an anti-caking agent. I don't know why you want to use the stuff, but I wouldn't. If you're having mite or lice issues, I would suggest permethrin for the premises and Ivermectin pour-on for the birds.

Silicon dioxide is naturally occurring all over the earth, basically beach sand is silicon dioxide. It is generally considered safe and is sometimes a food additive, the anti-caking thing. (I'm not advocating it, just saying what the info says-I personally don't eat foods with any additives), HOWEVER it can be a lung irritant when breathed and can cause silicosis from chronic breathing of it.

I have never found DE to be effective and stopped using it for anything a long time ago. I don't like wasting money, or doing things twice when once is enough with the right stuff.
I guess you will have to use your own best judgement.

It feels like sometimes. You have to get a PhD in BS to put up with other people’s BS.
But I can’t complain. I love my job. I enjoy asking “why” and seeing if we can change the habits
OhMan, that's sooo true!
:lol::gig
I too ask 'why', and a lot of other questions, accurate information and details are important.
