Is it still too cold?

I have been raising chicks inside for 3 weeks now - they are 5 weeks old. I built a coop for them - but it is still very cold here in Michigan. I am thinking of insulating the interior of the coop with Styrofoam. I put a heat lamp out there to see how warm it keeps it - when it was 54 outside; the inside was only 63. I am worried too that the chicks will eat the styrofoam.

Thoughts?

The chicks would definitely eat the Styrofoam, you would have to glue/screw plywood or some other material to cover it.

63 is not a terrible temperature, just make sure they have a nice small place to huddle. They have all their feathers in, right? They should be fine.

63 during the day!!! it is still 40ish at night here

I'm in Michigan too, I have not moved mine outside either and they are roughly 6 weeks. I'm holding off till the weather gets even better.

MI here to. Although I have technicality moved mine outta the house but put them in the garage.

And built this set up for them. Where the lamp is stays about 65-70 they seem to cuddle all together is any colder. Now the cuddle in different groups.

I’m no means a pro in fact new like yourself but just trying to help. Oh the are about 4 weeks here. Ducks to man they grow fast!
