Is it time?

Zaz,,yes, very much so with all the rain we have had and the grass was ate down to nothing last spring very early on. I have a friend who baled grass hay last summer that has about 50 bales that was put inside a dirt floor barn and now noone will buy them for feeding so I offered him a quarter per bale to take them off his hands. About 25 bales will put a nice covering inside all my outside breeding pens so the males trains won't get balled up with mudd like what happened last spring. I never thought I would be out garden hosing peacock tails to get the mudd out so they wouldn't break and so they could fly up to their perches but me and wifey spent an entire evening doing just that.

Sorry Frenchy i figured as much with the weather you have had.

Guess you don't have many trees around there, but when the trimmers come around here to clear the power lines of tree limbs we have them dump all the chips in our pasture and the next year we start using them in our brooder pen and gardens, sure takes care of the mud and turns into dirt later on and leaves make wonderful ground cover also but only last about a week if piled in the pen pretty thick.

I personally like shavings but that is 5 dollars a bag so i usually use leaves or pine needles i rake up.

I brought home 30 bales of grass straw today and have now lined the pens. The birds wants outside BAD,,so that may be our mission tonight. I will get pics of all the males,as this is their prime show off time of the year.Camera batteries are charging, just for you ZAZ,,And New2,,,I won't forget about ole Thang,,who actually looks nice this spring (his attitude still hasn't changed, can't wait to catch him and move him to his pen)

Ever thought about putting sand in the runs to dry them out? i know it would be alot of wheel barrow work but you are gonna have to wheel barrow that hay outa there anyhow.

Zaz,,,I considered sand but yes,too much wheel barreling for me. The straw normally is about 80% rotten away come fall or early wintertime. Pics are coming today, and I might move some outside if I can find my old-tough car hart jacket. Those toenails plays like razor blades on arm sleeves.

Sarah,,guess we will be babysitting your nebraska bird a bit Thursday? Was busy moving 2012 hatched birds tonight until we got rained out. Still sorting who goes with who this breeding season. The boys tho all look in their prime tho. Discovered one thing tonight,if wifey goes out and helps do chores in the breeding pens, all the males opens up and shows off. Next time when the suns out it will be photo op time. Bring your camera along, they might be nice and show you what trains they have been working on all winterlong.
