Hi
big_smile.png

My chickens laid their first eggs!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!!
BUtttttttt
We did not have a next box buit in the chicken coop when we buit it. Ive tried convincing my dad to build it but he never has. Yesturday, (sept. 3rd) My mom and dad saw silverwing come out of the kids sand box and yell, proudly. Mom went down their and their were 5 eggs in a makeshift "nest"!!! 3 were a really light brown and on the smaller size, and 2 were a dark brown large eggs!! How long do you think they have been laying? And is it to late to get them to lay in the nest boxes dad is building today?
(3 wyanadottes, 3 easter eggers) Their 19 weeks old.

Thanks!!

Not sure how long they've been laying ,but it's not too late to get them to use the nest box. Try putting a golf ball in it, and don't let the girls out of the coop until after they have lain their eggs for the day. Do that for a week, and hopefully they will get used to the new nest box.

I agree with Kansaseq its never to late to train them to lay in the box, besides they are looking for a comfy spot to lay that is sorta private anyhow . So you shouldnt have to much trouble. Luck to ya!

Congratulations! First eggs are always a lot of fun. You can make some nesting boxes yourself out of things such as a 5 gallon bucket on it's side. Have fun!
