I'm decoupaging boxes for my friends and family. You can get small wooden jewelry-type boxes at craft stores for between 75¢ and $2.50, a big bottle of Mod Podge that will cover all the gifts and maybe more for $8, and the papers and designs either printed out from the internet or in your recycle bin (I personally like garden catalogs!). It ends up being about $1.25 per gift and they're so much more personal than anything from the store.

any one have a recipe for the cookie dough that you can make several different kinds of cookies from? and suggestions. would be easy to just make one dough instead of 4.

One year, someone gave us cookies in a jar and it was dreamsicle orange cookies.
It had white chips, and Tang. My son still talks about those. he's a dreamsicle type of guy.
Do any of you have that recipe? Subbing the white chips for the chocolate is easy enough, but the sugar in the tang tosses me off a bit.

I just made small bunt cakes of the '10 egg pound cake.' (Better known here now as the '10 pound egg cake', because I get my mixes all worded up sometimes.)
They are wrapped with a bow and going out in a few minutes. They look lovely and I know they will be enjoyed.

I loved Miss Prissy's idea of getting yarn from old sweaters. The hats I am making are turning out so cool! I am making everyone one now...But I do not have enough yarn!
(I think Miss Prissy should have her own show. Or at least a fan club.)

Dreamsicle Cookies Recipe


1 hour | 15 min prep

SERVES 12 -14 , 2 cookies

1/2 cup orange drink mix (dry Tang orange crystals)
3/4 cup sugar
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup margarine, softened
1 egg
1 1/2 cups vanilla chips

Beat margarine, sugar and tang until well blended.
Add egg and mix until thoroughly combined.
Add dry ingredients and mix.
Stir in vanilla chips.
Drop by tablespoon full onto a greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375°F for 12 to 14 minutes.

Ah! I found some tins for $2 at Wal-Mart. Got six of them. All in all, I'm going to be able to make no-bakes for entire "families" for about $5 total. That helped SO much.


Please, keep the ideas coming because I can use these other ideas for birthdays and of course, next Christmas!

You know in the heat of summer I throw vanilla ice cream and orange juice in the blender for a "dreamsicle shake" so these dreamsicle cookies are right up my alley!! Can't wait to try them. Thanks so much for posting that recipe!

this year i tried to make all our gifts for the family, i am quickly running out of time. i knitted some snowmen for my mil who collects them, the kids added felt hats etc. i m making some cookies for my niece, and everyone is getting choco covered pretzels. i got xmmas tins from the thrift store for 25 cents each. unfortunalty, not everyone in the extended fam is good with homemade gifts, but i wanted to say ornaments are good and you can Always use Glue and Felt, or yarn to make those angel type ppl. tissue paper wreaths. Or one friend made me a basket one year, it was just a basket from the thrift store she decorated with hot glue and ribbon. Oh and one more good thing about thrift stores .... *no one will know the items are used if youre sneaky enough*

My DH made several DVDs of all the old cartoons from the 1920s up to the 1950s. (Even the banned ones (racial, drugs etc) Very interesting historically! Copied them from a youtube search. (2 hours worth) He recorded them and we put them on DVDs and will package them up with my hand sewn potholders and homemade cookies. Along with gift certificates for those that don't want cookies. (REALLY, who doesn't want cookies?

They're getting cookies anyway!

It's so much more fun to be creative......
