I don't think it's true. I tried it with my d'uccle once I brought her home. By using that method, she was suppose to be a rooster.

Can't tell chicken sex this way.

The real purpose of picking the chick up by thumb and forefinger
was to see if the legs were connected. If one of the legs fall off,
put that chick back in the box and choose another.

You do not want a broken chicken.
