That I want to recycle a giant industrial oven range/hood and turn it into my nesting boxes?

It is beyond broken and I could not get that much for it in scrap.

Maybe it will scare the eggs out of the chickens...

Nope, not wrong at all. I turned the oven in my camper coop into a nest box and the girls don't have any problem climbing in there to lay their eggs.
