I have a full grown pekin duck who has bumblefoot. We want to give her a shot of LA 200 antibiotic to ensure we are clear of infection after surgically removing the scab and dead skin. However, is LA 200 safe for ducks? How much to administer and how often if so? We are newbies with this and need advice! Thanks so much!!

According to poultry DMV you can use it.

However this family of drugs are known to reduce calcium absorption. I would not imagine this to be an ideal drug to use with a laying female. My preferred drug for bumblefoot is baytril (enrofloxacin). You can order it online at

So injecting her with the LA200 is not safe for her? I cannot get her to an avian vet for 2 more weeks and at-home treatments are not working. I am afraid this is going to turn terminal for her.

So the LA 200 would be harmful if injected? I cannot get her to the vet for 2 weeks and at home treatment is not working. No vet will talk to me about treatment without seeing her. I feel like I am running out of time.

It lists dosages for chickens and turkeys, but not ducks.

What about upper respitory issues in a duck?
Welcome to BYC. Oxytetracycline is a common drug that treats respiratory infections. LA 200 is an injectable oxytetracycline that is given to cattle once or every 3 days. Some people apparently give it to chickens as well off label. I have never used it. You can get oral oxytetracycline from a vet, or use Tylan or tylosin for respiratory diseases. Here is a thread about using oxytet in post 1:
