Is Light-less Ventilation Possible?

Is it possible to have ventilation that's always open without letting any light into the coop?

I've been thinking about roosters crowing, and it seems like if it's dark inside the coop they won't know that it's morning/time to crow, but it also seems like if you have proper venting there will always be light getting into the coop.

Is there a way around this that just isn't occurring to me or is it pointless to try to control crowing by keeping the interior of the coop dark?

It might be a lot of work to contain a rooster to be a rooster. My roosters crows even when it’s still dark 5-530 am. Some people take their rooster in their house in a totally dark room, some place a no crow collar to muffle the sounds. A few reports it work, some didn’t like it since it could choke their rooster if placed wrong or dislodged by accident.
I have the same scenarios, with my roosters that I probably have to get rid of when spring comes since my neighbors will start leaving their windows open when it’s warmer.

I would say... yes, it is pointless.

When I built my coop I left the peak of the roof open the entire length of the run. So it is 7 inches abut 8 feet of ventilation. I put hardware cloth over it then a vented ridge cap. I also left all of the eves/overhangs open. Both provide great ventilation and don't let light in. I would think for the health of the chickens you would want light in, at least for the days they cannot/will not go outside due to weather. I am not an expert in that area (or any other area really).

Yeah, I've basically given up on this.
I'm going to have plenty of vents/windows/light.

I used landscaping fabric to cover my front window this winter before I expanded my coop. This will still allow some ventilation, but it is decreased, and will black out the coop. Still, I wouldn't deprive them of light too much, and if you have layers in the same space till late in the morning...

It is pointless, i'm sorry.
Even if it looks pitch black to us it isn't to a rooster they can see the ultraviolet spectrum we can't.
The blackest of blackouts still lets the uv spectrum shine right through.
