Is limestone poisonous to ducks?

Canard...it didn't know there was such a thing called "barn safe". Any idea where its sold? I have Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware, etc... ? Also, I didn't have plans of putting the lime in the actual duck house, but in an area right next to the house, where they like to hang out and have a poop party. With the subsequent use of water to hose the porch down and out towards the side has created this "muddy, hay laced poo soup". Yup....stinky too.

Barn Lime is sold at TSC, and likely a good hardware too. It is cheap, like under $3 per bag and it is NOT caustic or. My process is animals are out and away, sprinkle on the barn lime, rake it in gently. It is not a substitute for a proper substrate. Personally I like sand. Good Luck.

I would also suggest that if the straw is wet and stinky, that you need to get that out. That can be used as compost with the other type of lime that canard referred to.

... But around your animals, stick to "barn lime," the kind that has the pictures of the horses on the bag.

Thank you, HollyHockFarm. Its just a bit strange for me to thank a farm, but I didnt see a name so, a thanks to the farm it'll be.

On the straw; we did remove the mushy straw and that's when I started to think of an alternative. I did think of sand but that just seemed like I was inviting every cat in the neighborhood to come and use our facilities and I really didnt want our duckys trying out the local cat - turd cuisine. Ewoooo

Sorry Mini Moe, I just saw your post this evening. I am glad to see others stepped in to provide the answers so quickly.

I get barn safe lime at TSC or from a feed store. I didn't know there were two kinds initially. Once I found out there was lime safer for pets
(& people) I would only buy barn safe lime. There is very little price difference. However, peace of mind is worth a lot to me, since I make an awful "farmer" & think of my flock as pets / friends & family. Those who don't have ducks just wouldn't get the bond one can have with one's "flock". They look to me for treats, affection, protection & safety. They think I am their "mom".
