Hi everyone, I’m wondering if my rooster is an Araucana or a mix of something? He is supposed to be pure bred but he doesn’t have the tufts sticking out the sides. He does make a completely different sound to the other chooks

Per another thread, OP is in Australia, where Araucanas have small crests, beards, and tails. The Australian standard does not call for tufts: http://www.openpoultrystandards.com/Araucana

Based on the varieties listed on that page, unless I overlooked one, I don't see a variety that exactly matches the bird in the original post. I would assume he's either a very leaky black or a mix of two varieties of Araucana. Aside from plumage coloring, he matches the standard well, so I don't think he's a mix with another breed.

I second this

That’s a good resource. Thank you for the share. I’ll have to remember to post that I’m in Australia for future questions.

Yeah, I think the majority of users here are in the U.S., so most assume that's where others are as well. If you click on your username in the upper right corner (or your avatar at the upper right on mobile) and click on Account Details in that tab, you can add a location to your profile so that it shows up in your posts and you don't have to remember to mention it every time. 🙂
