Is My Australorp Being Sneaky or I Am I Just Overly Anxious? How Do I Know When She Actually is Laying?

There's usually a lot of excited clucking going on when they drop one. Our BLK AUS started at 17 and there was no mistaking the ruckus. It was one would lay and the rest would start cheering along with the layer. None used the nest box, even with the decoy eggs, all preferred a corner of the coop and are still laying there.

Her comb and her wattle were so red for so long that I was sure she was going to lay earlier than this. And my ladies are pretty quiet and haven’t heard much excited clucking except when there’s a hawk scare. But she laid in the box. She was so cute hopping in and out the box while I was adjusting the door. She sat on the decoy eggs even though I had power tools going. She’s my absolute fav.

Generally when you have given up all hope, then two weeks later they lay...

I have found about 4 weeks after they have reddened up, and 2-3 weeks after they start to squat. So in my opinion, she is close, but it could be a couple of weeks yet.
No I got my first egg yesterday. I’m so excited! She’s been red for about a month. And it’s funny because she didn’t squat until yesterday. She was so proud for me to see her jumping in and out of the nesting box. 😂

Her vent looks different and she has a little cream colored stuff on her butt feathers. Everyone else seems the same.
