Is my baby shrink wrapped?

I know this sounds strange, but I do not recommend this as your only themomether because I have never used this to regulate an incubator, but there is a remote temperature and humidity sensing unit made by the Chaney Instrument Company called an Acu>Rite 00611 that may work you. It costs less than $30 and comes in two parts. One part senses the temperature/humidity in a remote location and transmits this information via radio to a display unit sitting on your coffee table up to 165 away. I know that my Acu>Rite is extremely accurate compared to the 6:00 TV weather and news but remember that the US Weather Service don't set many chicken eggs so I have never depended on my Acu>Rite to set or control an incubator . I do think that one would be useful to check the temperature and humidity on the fly inside a circulating air incubator without actually going to, looking at, or opening the incubator. In other words as a remote early warning device. There is also a trend line or arrow on the display unit that tells you if the remote temperature is trending up, trending down, or holding steady. I don't know that an Acu>Rite 00611 is sensitive enough temperature wise except to warn that something needs your attention. But I do think that it is more than sensitive enough to display the humidity inside a DYI incubator. However in a circulating air incubator an Acu>Rite 00611 may be more than accurate to do both. When you are through incubating chicks for the year, you can use your Acu>Rite 00116 to see how you want to dress without firing up your TV and waiting for Weather on the Eights.

The little guy/gal in egg #1 is half out now. The temp and humidity change must have worked wonders. I woke up and looked thru the dome and his little beak was sticking out. Now he has a wing and a foot out too!!! He looks to be resting for that last big push. I can see him breathing so I'm very happy! Will post pics when he is out and fluffed.

Yes, my happieness was short lived. My little guy did not make it!

Yeah I never thought I would get so attached to a chicken egg!

I do have 3 dozen and counting still to hatch in the next 21 days so I guess thats 3 dozen chances. I have hatched before but its been years. Now that I have my own human babies I tend to attach to everything! lol

Sorry to hear your bad news. Hang in there... My home made incubator just killed 60 plus bresse chicks.. Next design will have safe guards so it doesn't happen again. On the bright side I just moved 50 white bresse into the garage incubator because they are getting so big!
