Xerxes is 8 months old now. His neck has finally turned blue in the last week.
Is he slow to color or might he be a pied ? He still has alot of white.

Nope he is just young. They go through a lot of color changing since when they are chicks they are white. He is just a blackshoulder though he just is still getting color. Eventually he will have solid black wings and a solid blue neck, ect.

Ok, thanks all.
I'll just have to be patient.
And if he will look as beautiful
as 6littlechickies's boy, then Xerxes will
be worth the wait!

That is a spalding blackshoulder, it may still have some white feather untill his 3 rd year. pic of a 2 yr old peacock BS some white feathers in the shoulder

that plus look at all that green color going down the neck, not high % but still spalding.

I just thought that was a young peacock thing. When Alto was a yearling he had more of a green tint to his neck feathers but now that he is two he looks normal. Spaldings are pretty tricky sometimes...They either look very close to an India blue or very close to a green. I like the spaldings that look in between, much more easier to identify! Thanks deerman for explaining.
