Squatting for cock/erel, coupled with redder comb and wattles, is a sure sign she's close...but, as mentioned, could be tomorrow or a couple weeks.

maybe that's what you are thinking of. I don't know that measurement because I don't use it.
Vent Appearance:
Dry, tight, and smaller - usually not laying.
Moist, wide, and larger - usually laying.
Pelvic Points, feel for the 2 bony points(pelvic bones F-F) on either side of vent:
Less than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means not laying.
More than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means laying.
(Spacing is relative with chickens size and humans finger size.)

Not correct, it's between the 2 pelvic points(F-F below).Also, measure from her pelvic bone to her vent.
