My two oldest chicks are about 6 weeks old now. The darker one looks like it's comb is turning red. Do you think it's a roo? It's bigger than the white one which is the same age, it's tail feathers and comb are much bigger. The yellow one has a smaller tail and comb, which is still yellow.

Both chicks are the same age, but the white one is much smaller and it's comb is still yellow.

It's almost impossible (except for huge combed breeds) to tell at this age unless you have all the same breeds. Different breeds combs vary dramatically in size and rate of growth.

I really hope they're all hens. These two are the tamest, the kids have been handling them a lot, the white one is my 3 year old's favorate, it'd be a shame if we have to eat them......

at 3 weeks when you hae the same breeds the tails and wings are short on roo and longer on hens..whith none the same breed it is harder to tell like mentioned above but i still have raised enough to tell that long tails equall hens and short roos. so if you ever have 5 or 6 that you can compare at 3 or 4 weeks you will see that ...jeff
