Hi i have a chick that was due to hatch a few days ago and yesterday it started to pip at the air cell. But when i woke up this morning and went to check on it i saw no movement. I completly panicked and decided to make a small hole to check how it was doing. I did it the way i read that you should but there is still no movement. Is it dead? Plz help i'm terrified!

I have silkie eggs from a local farm. Today is day 26. The humidity was 70 and is now 73 because I opened the shell. This is what it looks like

To be honest I'm not an expert. We're in the process of incubating 12 eggs second attempt. From what I've read (and there's been alot) you done the right thing with the coconut oil but if it hasn't managed to push through the membrane and it was dried out it could have become shrink wrapped and died before you had the chance to use the oil. How are your other eggs looking? Day 26 seems long for silkie eggs. Some people say they generally hatch before normal size hen eggs at day 20. Have any of the others hatched or pipped?

Did you candle the eggs on day 17/18 before you put them into lockdown? How long do you suspect them to have been dead? They should have been removed asap unless after lockdown day. Unfortunately, the outcome doesn't look good for your one surviving chick.
