one week old chick is opening and closing her beak. Almost like she is chirping, but no sound. She is a little “lazy” compared to her other brooder buddies. The open and close beak just started today.

Two possibilities I can think of: The chick is too warm or she is having breathing problems-some kind of respiratory issue-possibly dust, etc. The chick should be separated from the rest until the issue is resolved.one week old chick is opening and closing her beak. Do you have any Poultry NutriDrench to give her a drop or two? Offer sips of water. What is the temperature of your brooder? Can you find the crop and feel it to see if it is hard or if it has been eating the bedding? Sometimes they can be weak from shipping stress or other unknown problems. Make sure that it does not have any droppings stuck to it’s vent. Has the chick been eating or drinking?
