Is my chicken a pullet or cockerel?

So we have a park in new Zealand and it's a huge arboretum and there are literally thousands of chickens walking around lol
They're just kind a like wild birds at stay at the park? Are they for people to take and who comes and feeds and waters them? I've never heard of such a thing. Sounds pretty cool though

If you can, get it a friend or two. They really don't like to be alone. They feel more frightened than when they have some friends. Since it's growing, you want it to feel safe so that it eats properly and stays healthy. It is hard to tell what sex it is right now.

If I get a new baby chicken will it try to beat it up though? Will I need to find one in similar size? This is my first chicken I've owned

It's a beautiful walk so they aren't that wild, like they aren't scared if humans. I think there are keepers who look after them but I think there are so many they cull some of them so they don't mind if you pinch the occasional few

You can introduce them slowly. It is a lot easier to do when they are young. There are different methods--but the easiest is to put a small cage inside the coop. The new bird of whatever age/size can go in that cage. Give them a few days to get used to each other. Then they should be fine. A little fight to establish pecking order will happen, but it shouldn't be to the death.

Looks like a cockerel to me. I can see rust on the wings and it looks like he has pointed saddle feathers growing in.

You will need to check that you can legally own chickens in your area. More specifically cockerels/ roosters. As he will crow.

Chickens are social animals and benefit greatly from the company of their own kind. You’ll need at least 3 pullets/hens. He’ll start breeding them when he matures, and 1 hen will get overbred.

Good luck on your chicken keeping journey! BYC is the best place to be for friendly people and information :)
